Start with the radio operator guide.
Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) publishes RIC-21, the study guide for the Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification. Use the current guide for the examination subjects and refer to ISED for the certification process.
Radio study is not simply learning a script. You need to understand who is being called, who is transmitting, what information is needed and how to keep the exchange clear. An app scenario cannot issue a radio qualification or replace an authorized examination.
Give each part of the call a purpose.
- Phonetic alphabet, numbers and aircraft call signs.
- Clear message structure, listening and appropriate phraseology.
- Distress, urgency and emergency communication concepts.
- Radio equipment, operating practices and regulatory responsibilities.
Selected Canadian classroom scenarios let you inspect and assemble a teaching message. Use them to identify missing information and explain the order of a call. Compare the wording with official references and the procedures your instructor teaches.
Practice belongs in the study environment.
Work through radio exercises in the classroom without transmitting on an operational frequency. Simplified examples do not establish current airport frequencies, airspace procedures or a clearance. Obtain current operational information from official sources.
Register and complete your Canadian study setup to access the selected ROC-A activities. Coverage is topic-level and awaiting instructor review; it is not a complete official exam bank or proof of certification.
