CANADA / PRIVATE PILOT

PPL ground school. Connect the four subjects.

Private Pilot Licence study brings air law, aeronautics, weather and navigation together. A useful study plan connects those subjects to the decisions behind a flight.

YOUR AIRPORT. YOUR CLASSROOM.

PPL study and the PPAER examination.

PPAER is the written examination associated with the Canadian Private Pilot Licence — Aeroplane. Transport Canada’s TP 12880 study and reference guide sets out the knowledge areas. Start there to understand what must be studied; use your flight training unit to confirm current training, eligibility and examination arrangements.

PSTAR preparation is a different milestone and does not replace PPL knowledge preparation. Likewise, a supplemental online study guide is not automatically an approved ground-school program or an examination recommendation.

Four areas to keep in view.

  • Air law: the rules, responsibilities and procedures behind a flight.
  • Aeronautics — general knowledge: aircraft systems, principles of flight, performance and human factors.
  • Meteorology: the atmosphere, aviation weather reports and forecast interpretation.
  • Navigation: charts, headings, groundspeed, time, fuel and flight planning.

The classroom links selected concepts with interactive activities. “Meet your aircraft” explores structure and controls; forces and angle-of-attack activities support flight principles; wind and navigation activities connect headings with a planned track. The models simplify the real aircraft and its environment.

Use your home airport as context.

Choose Canada and your home airport during setup. A familiar location such as Springbank (CYBW) can give runway and wind examples a recognisable setting. Then organise revision by the official subject headings, not only by the lessons you enjoy most.

After a practice session, review the explanation and its source, write down the idea you missed, and return to it later. Current Canadian content has topic-level coverage and is awaiting instructor review; completion does not certify PPAER readiness or replace required instruction.
